Today I attended two events that made me see things from a different perspective. Congressman Pence spoke at a luncheon hosted by the Center for Christian Statesmanship. Then after work I went on a tour of the Capitol given by Rick Green from WallBuilders. This tour was amazing!
He made clear that our Founding Fathers were not atheists and agnostics like most history books state today. In fact, 29 of the 56 signers of the Declaration of Independence held what is considered to be a seminary degree today. John Witherspoon-the best known evangelist of the time. Charles Thomson-wrote a translation of the Bible. Benjamin Rush-started the Sunday School movement in America. Francis Hopkinson-set the entire book of Psalms to music.
Thomas Jefferson-regular attendee at church service in one of the largest churches of its time...THE CAPITOL! George Washington-"Of all the habits and dispositions which lead to political prosperity, religion and morality are indispensable supports."
Talk about a rush of little known information. For those interested in the role of religion in days of our Founding Fathers, please visit www.wallbuilders.com.
