Today I was lucky enough to get a tour of C-SPAN Headquarters in Washington, DC. For those of you who do not know, I work at C-SPAN Archives in West Lafayette while attending college.
Peter Kiley, the Vice President of Affiliate Relations, was kind enough to show me all that goes into putting C-SPAN on the air. I would have never guessed that each program is monitored by that many people. After the tour, I told Peter that I was amazed at the amount of people it takes to air these events. He laughed and told me that C-SPAN is way smaller than other networks like CNN or FOX.
Thankfully I was able to talk with Rob Kennedy, Co-President of C-SPAN, while I was in the office. Rob and I met in December at the C-SPAN Archives Holiday party. He recalled our conversation from the Holiday party like it was yesterday. My friend Josh Bruce and I were the first people to show him the difference between 4-H and FFA. I will see him again this fall when he comes to the Archives for a visit.
While i was in the office, Peter introduced me to many people. I met and talked with C-SPAN's founder, Brian Lamb. Brian and I talked about Purdue, DC, and the Archives. Oddly enough, two of his fraternity brothers sat on Purdue's Board of Trustees with my sister.
